When I first moved in, there was no kettle in the kitchen, so we decided to buy this kettle, because winter was coming and so the need for more hot drinks.
The first time we boiled water with it, we almost jumped out of our chairs, so loud was the noise it made. Cracking and smacking, whizzing and fizzling and finally whistling. Then there was also the matter of time. To boil two cups of water takes almost 15 minutes. Everyday waiting for the water to boil I felt my body reacting to the sounds the kettle made and more and more the urge to move.
Thinking about companions I thought about me and Vita, how two months ago I moved in and now it feels already like a long time.
Vita is a jazz violinist and a coffee drinker and I am a dancer and a tea drinker. We spent long hours this past weeks sitting in the kitchen, talking, dreaming and eating. Sitting together in the morning with a cup of tea I asked her what she thinks about improvising with the kettle. She agreed that it seemed like a fun idea, so we started our exploration. It is like this kettle is our companion of the last months. It makes us speak louder and arrange our time after its boiling schedule. Now after 2 months I do not even hear the kettle anymore and am used to set it up early before I need the hot water.
Like it shaped our Improvisation it shaped our colocation.
